Investor Calls on Cambodia’s Justice Ministry to Investigate YY Capital Chairman
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has submitted formal requests to Cambodian authorities, urging intervention in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges serious misconduct, including embezzlement, fraud, and breaches of trust linked to the firm’s operations.
One of the letters, addressed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, asks authorities to “ensure justice” for the investor, who claims he suffered financial losses due to alleged wrongdoing by Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board. The investor alleges that real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated with inflated purchase prices, with preliminary estimates indicating that around $4 million may have been diverted for personal benefit and that of others.
The letters also allege that Yamada and alleged associates created fictitious business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, forged documents, and large-scale cash diversions through shell companies. Some of these funds, the investor claims, were transferred to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
Furthermore, the investor alleges that Yamada set up shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan using nominees, while retaining direct control over bank accounts and financial operations.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, with court orders freezing assets and bank accounts. Authorities in multiple countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are said to be investigating related allegations such as embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor’s letters call on Cambodian courts and officials to conduct a thorough investigation and express concern that interference could allow suspects to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
At this stage, these remain allegations by the investor, with investigations ongoing both in Cambodia and abroad.
